Siyag/Blocking AI on Android

There are two different problems here

People say "block AI" as if it were one task. It is two, and they need different mechanisms.

Standalone AI apps

ChatGPT, Claude, the Gemini app, the Copilot app, and the steady stream of wrappers built on top of them. These are ordinary apps, and blocking them is an ordinary app-blocking problem — one tap each in Siyag.

The catch is that blocking today's list does nothing about tomorrow's. New AI apps ship constantly, and a blocklist is always behind. The durable fix is not the blocklist at all — it is blocking the Play Store, so nothing new can be installed without the PIN. That closes the category rather than playing whack-a-mole inside it.

AI assistants built into apps you are keeping

This is the genuinely hard one, and it is why filters that worked a year ago no longer feel sufficient. The assistant is not a separate app you can decline to install. It arrived in an update to an app that was already on the phone, already permitted, and is genuinely needed — a school WhatsApp group, family messages.

How Siyag blocks in-app assistants

Siyag works at the screen level instead. Using Android's accessibility service, it watches what is actually on screen inside a permitted app, recognises the assistant's surfaces — the entry rows, the search bars, the conversation itself — and closes them, while the rest of the app carries on working normally.

Detection runs entirely on the device. No traffic is routed through a VPN or proxy, nothing is sent to a server, and it works with no internet connection.

The seven assistant surfaces with full detection

Detection combines structural patterns in the screen with the assistant's own name and phrasing, so it keeps working when an app redesigns its interface. One limitation worth stating: the name and phrase matching is English-only. A phone running one of these apps in another language gets the structural detection but not the text matching.

Blocking the browser matters as much as blocking the apps

Every major AI assistant is also reachable through a web page. Blocking the ChatGPT app while leaving Chrome installed accomplishes very little.

Siyag does not filter web content — it has no VPN, no proxy and no traffic inspection — so the approach is to block browsers outright: Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet, Edge, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Opera and the rest. Combined with blocking the Play Store, that closes the route rather than trying to police what comes through it.

How to block ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI apps on Android

For a standalone AI app — the ChatGPT app, the Gemini app, Claude, Copilot — open Siyag, find the app in the list and block it with one tap. It disappears behind the PIN like any other blocked app. To block ChatGPT or Gemini on the web as well, block the browsers too, and block the Play Store so a replacement cannot be installed.

For an assistant inside an app you are keeping — Gemini in Google Messages, Meta AI in WhatsApp — use the in-app AI toggle instead. That blocks the assistant while leaving the app itself working.

Putting it together

A configuration that actually holds against AI on Android has four parts, and skipping any one of them undoes the others:

1. Block standalone AI apps that are already installed.
2. Block every browser, because the web versions are otherwise one search away.
3. Block the Play Store, so no new AI app or browser can be installed to route around steps one and two.
4. Enable in-app AI blocking, for the assistants inside apps you are keeping.

All four sit behind the PIN, and because Siyag installs as Device Owner, the app itself cannot be uninstalled or disabled through Settings to undo them.
